At the Student Center building, the Health and Wellness Center provides experienced health care staff to assist in first aid care services for students and provide a 24-hour emergency transport to hospitals. Furthermore, this department also organizes programs for health preservation, illness prevention and health enrichment programs on and off campus.

The University operates a small health clinic in the Thomas Massengill Student Center. This is the first place for students to seek assistance when they are ill. A nurse will then refer the patient to doctors or hospitals as needed. Asia-Pacific International University collects a medical fee each semester and provides a limited medical insurance policy to help cover student medical expenses on the following basis:

  1. The expenses are necessary and are usual, customary and reasonable; are prescribed by a doctor; and purchased from a hospital, clinic or pharmacy.
  2. The expenses are incurred during the semester.
  3. Optical and dental expenses are excluded.
  4. When a student requires hospitalization, the University will inform the parents to ask them to accept responsibility for the student until he/she is able to study again.
  5. The University provides medical transportation only within the Muak Lek district. Transportation beyond that is the responsibility of the student.
  6. Expenses of less than 1,000 Baht may be approved by either the Vice President for Student Administration or Finance. Expenses in excess of that figure are subject to the consideration of the Administrative Committee.

A more substantial accident and emergency medical insurance policy is purchased on behalf of students. Policy restrictions apply and each student is provided a copy of these through a commercial insurance company.

There is also a small hospital in Muak Lek and several hospitals in Saraburi (a 30 minute drive from campus). The Bangkok Adventist Hospital (a drive of about one hour and 40 minutes) offers excellent services including a very good dental clinic. There are numerous other quality hospitals in Bangkok.

Medications are available locally. An English speaking pharmacist is located in Muak Lek across the major vegetable and fruit market.

Drama Guidelines

The Student Life Committee is giving full support to the use of drama in our assemblies and/or worship services.

During the recent Festival of Faith and several vespers services before that, many students were very excited by the drama presentations. It increases student’s participation and stimulates the audience’s interest. For some students who do not learn much through lectures or sermons, the use drama is a powerful pedagogical tool. For many, that is the only item they remember after the service.

However, even a good tool can create negative results and feelings, if not used carefully. For example, several people have expressed their discomfort having to watch acts of violence and negative role-models on the stage. We need to be sensitive to their feelings also. That is why we are suggesting some guidelines to maximize our positive impact as we plan our future drama presentations.

We are encouraging positive role models, exhibiting constructive behaviors and uplifting actions, for example:

1. characters involved in prayer
2. worshiping
3. helping other people
4. encouraging friends
5. doing community service
6. Being diligent in their studies, reading in the library, preparing for exams
7. participating in sports
8. playing or singing good music
9. successfully resisting negative peer pressure
10. giving sound advice to friends
11. showing respect for parents, elderly and teachers
12. demonstrating biblical, faithful love between one Christian man and a woman, courtship made with respect for self and others
13. encouraging safe driving, wearing helmet when riding the motor bike
14. giving Bible studies, inviting friends to spiritual activities
15. sharing of stories of students who are accepting Jesus and asking for baptism.
16. telling actual biblical stories (parables or biographies), especially the positive ones

We are discouraging the extensive display of negative characters on stage, including

1. Satanic or evil spirits activities
2. alcohol drinking
3. drug abuse
4. smoking
5. fighting or any king of violence
6. use of offensive language
7. disobedience to authority
8. idol worship
9. sexual immorality (no multiple partners, no pre-marital sex, no abortion, no homosexuality).
10. hatred, discrimination, racism, ethnocentrism, prejudice, sexism, disrespect to individuals or group of people

For the purpose of clarity or driving a point, we may briefly refer to these negative traits. However, let us try to avoid having our students extensively display these behaviors in front of the public. By beholding we change. People tend to imitate what they watch. Hollywood is already packed with evil thoughts, violence, immorality, and mockery about spiritual values. The audience should not see more of these things when they come to our meetings.

Philippians 4:8 (NKJV) “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things”.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV) : “We all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord”.

Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV): “For As he thinks in his heart, so is he”.

Low Citizenship Points – New Guidelines – 2013-2014

The minimum acceptable level for the citizenship points is 70.

If a student’s citizenship points fall below 70, the student must raise the level to the required minimum level to be permitted to move off campus, to graduate or to register for the next semester. There are stricter guidelines for students who wish to run as SC officer candidates.

Most students lose their citizenship points because of the following violations:

1. Breaking curfew rules
2. Failing to wear the complete uniform
3. Failure to ask permission before going away for the weekend
4. Alcohol, smoking, or drug abuse violations

How can students build back their citizenship points?

There are two ways to get their points back to an acceptable level:

1. Do community service: The dorm dean, their professor or the chaplain can give them some work to do to fulfill the community service (free labor) requirements to earn the points you need. The rate is one hour of work for three points. One (1) hour of work = 3 points
2. Pay a fine: 50Baht for one (1) point. Fines cannot be charged to the student’s account. All fines must be paid in cash at the cashier’s window located in the Administration Building. The student will bring the receipt to the dorm dean to receive the citizenship points. Student may earn a maximum of 50% (half) of the points they need to regain by paying a fine. For the other half, they must do community service hours.

Can students pay a fine to rebuild their worship attendance percentage?

No, they can’t. Money cannot buy worship attendance credit. To earn worship credits, they need to attend worship services and/or participate in the following activities:

1. Dorm worship
2. Chapel (Wednesday at 10am)
3. Assemblies
4. Wednesday night family worship at 7pm
5. Departmental worship on some Thursdays at 7pm
6. Vespers (Friday at 7pm)
7. Sabbath morning worship at 9am and 10:45 am
8. Branch Sabbath School (Saturdays at 1:30 pm)
9. AY meeting every Saturday at 5pm
10. Other pre-approved spiritual meeting, Bible study groups, prayer meetings, Seekers, choir, etc.

We are delighted to welcome you to your new home! Our goal is for you to have a pleasant and comfortable life at AIU. We wish you to be successful in your studies, to stay safe and healthy, to grow spiritually, and to make many new friends. We encourage you to take advantage of the various cultural events and club activities on campus. Get involved in the different cultural, recreational, and sports events.

Asia-Pacific International University is a residential institution. Students are expected to reside in the dormitories to fully benefit from the extra-curricular activities offered on campus and to be in the vicinity of their classrooms, the library, the church and the dining hall.

Six dormitories are available to the students: The Bangkok campus dorm, where the junior and senior nursing students stay to be close to the hospital where they do their practical training. The other five dorms are in Muak Lek, Saraburi province: Solomon Hall for the male students; Esther, Ruth and Eve Halls for the ladies. They are surrounded by a naturally beautiful and quiet environment conducive to learning and character development.

For a smooth operation of our dormitories, every resident must follow all the rules and obey the additional instructions given by the University officials. A complete list of the rules can be found in the Student Handbook. Each student is responsible to read the Handbook and comply with all its regulations. Thank you in advance for your full cooperation.

Residence Guidelines

Below is summarized the minimum information you need to know as you start your new life on campus:

1. Curfew: Curfew is at 10:00PM every night and at 11:00 P.M. on Saturday night.

2. Room Check: Rooms will be checked 15 minutes after curfew. A minimum of 10 points are deducted from the citizenship points for every night a student is absent without permission. The time the student arrives after the curfew time determines the number of points to be deducted.

3. Quiet Hours: The quiet hours in the residence hall are from 9:00 pm – 9:00 am. It is a grave offense to disturb your roommates or your neighbors by playing music, DVDs, Computer games, TV, after 9:00 pm. Please use your earphones/ headphones during the quiet hours.

4. No Controlled Substances: It is strictly prohibited to smoke cigars or cigarettes, drink alcohol, possess or abuse illegal drugs or any addictive substances on or off campus while attending the University. Punishment for such infractions include a cash fine, suspension, or dismissal.

5. Room Care: Residents are responsible for taking good care of the furniture in their rooms. Moving beds, mattress, desks, or chairs to other rooms is not allowed unless permitted by the Deans. (See Appendix A-4)

6. Room Damage: Sticking posters or anything on the walls and closets are not allowed. Students responsible for damaging the wall will pay for the necessary repairs.

7. Personal Belongings Safety: Be prudent with expensive personal belongings such as cameras, laptop computers, jewelry, money, costly cell phones, etc. To be on the safe side, contact the deans and rent a student locker where valuable things can be kept safe from losses or robbers.

8. Cleanliness: Dorm residents are responsible for the cleanliness of their room, their bathroom and their balcony.

9. Worship Attendance: Dorm residents are required to have at least 70% attendance on morning worships and dorm assembly at 7:00A.M., chapel, departmental worship, Friday evening Vespers, and Sabbath services. No exceptions! (See Appendix 2)

10. Uniforms: Complete school uniforms is required daily when attending classes or chapel services. That includes the pin/button, the right kind of shoes and belts. No jeans, no sandals, no jewelry!

11. Transportation Safety: For safety reasons, all students are required to wear a helmet when riding motorbikes on or off-campus. Students are encouraged to be back on campus by 7:00 P.M. for their own safety. Everyone must be in the dorms before curfew time.

12. Sabbath Observance: All students are required to show respect for the observance of the holy Sabbath on campus. Sabbath starts at sundown Friday afternoon and ends Saturday evening. It is a day of rest, fellowship and worship. Please refrain from doing heavy work, for example washing clothes, cleaning rooms, etc. The sport facilities and the library are closed during the Sabbath hours. Students are expected to attend worship services every Sabbath morning from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.
